Brothers & Sisters!
Recently, I watched the Indpendent Lens film “Pushing the Elephant”, and it literally ROCKED my entire world. I felt so much love and compassion for Rose Mapendo and her children, who survived 16 months in a Congolese Death Camp. I had to write to her. So I went to their website http://www.mapendonewhorizons.org and wrote to her about how inspiring she is and how her story changed me.
Rose’s brother Dr. Kigabo Mbazumutima called me and we joyfully discovered our connection, we are brother and sister in the Lord. That first time we spoke, we talked endlessly about God, it’s wonderful to feel exactly the same way with someone you’ve never met!
They were busy touring the country for the screening of the film, but as soon as we could, we organized a luncheon at Engrained Cafe, where my husband is Executive Chef. We had such a blessed time together!! We laughed and cried, ate, and talked for hours, we could hardly let one another go!
It’s my goal to help them Push the Elephant, their mission, to bring peace to their homeland by creating artwork that can raise awareness and funds. Further down the road, we envision arts education for Africa and the world, to give people a way to express themselves, share their stories and also as a means to earn a living.
